Foods That We Think Are Healthy Are Slowly Killing Us

You go into any supermarket and there are aisles full of food with ‘low fat’, ‘sugar-free’ and ‘now with 30% less calories’ pasted all over them. It’s so easy to get confused amidst all of the various claims about the benefits of different foods, especially as companies are now trying to promote their products everywhere you look.

But here are just a few examples of foods that you may believe are healthy, but are proven not to be:

Processed, Fat-Free Foods. Supermarket shelves are filled with processed, fat-free foods. Sadly, while these foods have been stripped of saturated fat ( which, by the way is perfectly healthy despite what you’ve been led to believe) they have often been sabotaged with sugar. When the fat is removed from foods such as cookies, potato chips, and ice cream, they usually don’t taste very good. To compensate for a lack of taste, food manufacturers add harmful sugar.

Vegetable ( aka Seed) Oils : When dieting, preparing more meals at home is always a good idea. However, be wary of cooking with processed, vegetable oils like canola oil, grapeseed oil, and soybean oil. Research suggests replacing natural fats such as olive oil, butter, and coconut oil with these highly processed, vegetable oils can increase your probability of dying from both cancer and heart disease.

100 Calorie Snack Packs: If you’re struggling to lose weight, stay away from unhealthy health foods like 100 calorie snack packs. While these packs allow you to control portion size and calories, they typically don’t have any nutritional value. Even worse, they’re frequently loaded with damaging sugar and seed oils. Instead of buying these often expensive snacks, go for healthy alternatives such as plain, greek yogurt, walnuts, apple slices or a hard-boiled egg.
